The Utah Highway Patrol has established three pillars of wellness for their troopers, dispatchers, retirees, and family members. A strong mindset is not the only thing an officer needs to get them through a career in law enforcement. Physical, mental, and financial wellness are also powerful attributes to have a successful career and beyond. Through peer-reviewed research and firsthand experiences, the peer support team identified these pillars to address physical strain, spillover of job-related and personal stressors, and the financial burden first responders may encounter. The peer support team has been able to tailor its areas of focus, provide tangible resources to peers, and move the team in a direction that is gaining momentum and transforming into a robust wellness program.
