The way courts interpret the scope of constitutional protections against excessive force is constantly evolving as litigants bring increasingly complex cases and courts consider the constitutional boundaries and apply the doctrine of qualified immunity. This presentation will review recent important use-of-force cases that are shaping Fourth Amendment law at the federal or state level. This case review will help all members of the U.S. law enforcement community stay abreast of the law governing use of force in a variety of contexts and will also provide insight for legal officers to ensure that use-of-force policies and training remain current.
