Chances are over the last few years, every agency has received a public records from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, ACLU, MuckRock News, or another nonprofit organization seeking information about technologies being used by the agency. In this talk, Dave Maass (EFF director of investigations and scholar in residence at the University of Nevada, Reno) will explain the backstory behind these requests–why they’re filed, how the information is used, and how the output may actually be useful to law enforcement professionals. He will also conduct a demonstration of the AtlasofSurveillance.org tool, which allows people to compare the surveillance technology landscape across 5,500+ U.S. agencies . This talk is the perfect opportunity to pose burning questions to a civil liberties advocate.
