Research covering the impacts from workplace stress, shift work, traumatic incidents and health, among other areas has often lacked scientific rigor and results about interventions are often mixed. More recently the important role of providing regular mental health support to law enforcement officers has become recognized and grown. The field of police psychological services can be described as reaching consensus that mental wellness support to law enforcement is important. However, implementation has yet to achieve agreement on some practical matters including methodology, costs and the impacts from “police reform” pressures upon police organizations. The presentation will provide a clearer approach and reconceptualization of best approaches to mental wellness programs.
