In a world that offers the two opposing options of “Us versus Them”, the third option is to honor what everyone has in common, namely their shared humanity. The Third Option Similarity Training is a DEI approach that focuses on similarities, no differences—honor and not shame. Based on the book The Third Option, former San Diego Charger and both the son and father of police officers, Pastor Miles McPherson, teaches that the similarities of people’s shared humanity far outweigh their differences. Consequently, if people can honor or place value on those Similarities, they will establish better relationships. This presentation will equip law enforcement with the ability to recognize the similarities that they all share; empower law enforcement with the practical tools to drive positive interactions in the course of their duties; and encourage law enforcement to believe in the possibility of mutually beneficial outcomes. Living out The Third Option Similarity training should result in a significant and sustained reduction in negative media, fights, injuries, deaths, lawsuits, and complaints.
