Crimes are rarely solved within the first 24 hours, but those first hours after the crime is discovered are critical for law enforcement. While nothing can replace a skilled investigator, various technologies can assist in providing significant leads. This presentation will discuss digital identifiers that can help during investigations, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth access points, cellphone extractions of victims, apps’ hidden data collection, and Internet and cell-sites. During this presentation, the speaker will share victim-, suspect-, and location-based ways of finding evidence to include innovative ways of seeing a crime scene through different technologies. Remember, even though a suspect's device may not have "connected" to anything, it likely did leave a trail. No high-tech background needed.
