Cristie Hopkins currently serves the citizens of Harford County, MD as the Director of Media and Public Relations for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. She joined the Agency in 2013 and was promoted to the Chief Spokesperson in 2014. As Director, she oversees all aspects of Communications, Public and Media Relations, as well as Marketing for the Agency.
Ms. Hopkins holds Bachelors degree in Communications with a minor in Marketing; beginning her communications career in 1998 at a Harford County nonprofit (with nothing but a fax machine!).
Upon joining the Sheriff's Office, Ms. Hopkins dedicated her efforts to incorporating social media into all facets of public relations and crime-solving endeavors. Throughout her tenure, she has adeptly managed the communications surrounding two line-of-duty deaths, two active shooter incidents, and numerous other critical events. Consequently, her expertise has garnered significant recognition, making her a highly sought-after speaker at local, state, and national platforms, where she shares insights on effectively utilizing social media to communicate vital public safety messages during active incidents.
