Assistant Chief Wessing has served with the Mesa Police Department for 25 years. He is currently assigned as the Patrol Operations Bureau Assistant Chief. His bureau encompasses the Central, Fiesta, Red Mountain, Superstition Patrol Divisions and the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Assistant Chief Wessing has worked in various assignments in every rank in the Mesa Police Department. These assignments include: Patrol, Bicycle Unit, School Resource Officer, Community Action Team, Traffic, Media Relations, Training, Criminal Investigations and Human Resources (Hiring and Training).
Assistant Chief Wessing has a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from Benedictine University. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA), the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Assistant Chief Wessing is active in the community, volunteering many hours throughout the year and is currently on the Executive Board of Directors for Arizona Disabled Sports & Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled.
