Dr Tara Dickens has over 20 years’ experience as a Senior Detective in the UK police service. Currently, she is Director of Policing at Canterbury Christ Church University with responsibility for day-to-day delivery of all UK and International undergraduate & postgraduate policing related programmes in the School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences. This includes strategic oversight for the delivery of police entry programmes with several UK police forces, such as the police constable degree apprenticeships, detective degree holder entry and standard degree holder entry routes into policing. Tara supervises PhD students and her key research interests include Child sexual exploitation, child physical harm, risk assessment tools for front line practitioners, police interviewing, leadership and policing culture. Tara is an editor and author for the Blackstone's Handbook for Policing Students and contributes to several UK advisory groups focused on preventing unexpected child death.
