Chief Kenneth E. Corey began his career with the New York City Police Department in 1988. He retired in November, 2022 as Chief of Department, where he was responsible for the coordination and management of the agency’s operational bureaus. With an emphasis on neighborhood policing, customer service, and the improved health and wellness of officers, he was applauded for his community engagement strategies and strengthening relationships between the NYPD and traditionally marginalized communities.
Chief Corey has served in leadership positions in the Patrol, Detective, Organized Crime, Personnel, Training and Intelligence Bureaus.
Since leaving the NYPD, Chief Corey serves as an Executive Advisor at the University of Chicago’s Policing Leadership Academy, helping educate police commanders on strategies to reduce violent crime while improving community engagement and officer morale.
Chief Corey earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Pace University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Marist College. He is a graduate of the Major Cities Chiefs Association Police Executive Leadership Institute.
