Laura McElroy is a leading law enforcement communications strategist and trainer who has a track record of helping agencies reinvent their communications. She draws upon her 33 years of experience as an award-winning journalist, the Communications Director of the Tampa Police Department, and a nationally recognized communications consultant.
While she trains in all aspects of communications, she specializes in helping agencies respond to critical incidents in a transparent and accountable manner that promotes legitimacy. Laura works with the command-level leaders and challenges them to evolve from managers to law enforcement leaders.
Laura is a member of the Department of Justice Team conducting a Critical Incident Review of the law enforcement response to the Uvalde school shooting. She is also a member of the Independent Monitoring Team of the Chicago Police Department.
This media veteran shares best practices in communications as an instructor with the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute of Police, SMIP. She also serves as a subject matter expert for the U.S. Department of Justice, CNA, Major Cities Chiefs Association and IACP.
