Rasha Gerges Shields is a former federal prosecutor with more than 20 years of trial and appellate experience. She is a partner at the law firm of Jones Day, and she is the Vice President of the Los Angeles Police Commission. Rasha served as a federal criminal prosecutor for over seven years, including as the Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Taskforce. She has worked extensively as a police reform advisor. Prior to her appointment to the Los Angeles Police Commission earlier this year, she co-chaired the Police Commission’s Advisory Committee on Building Trust and Equity after the 2020 civil unrest, as well as co-chaired UCLA's public safety efforts. She was appointed earlier this year by the California Supreme Court Chief Justice to serve on the Supreme Court and Appellate Court Bias Prevention Committee. As a Commissioner, Rasha focuses on the LAPD's disciplinary system, including its handling of biased policing claims, community engagement, the recruitment, retention, and wellness of Department personnel, and ensuring the Department’s policies and practices reflect best practices in constitutional policing.
