Jon Murad has been the Chief of Police of Burlington, VT., since 2020. He spent three of those years in an acting capacity--surely in the running for the longest "acting COP" tenure ever. At the BPD he has led on developing new, non-sworn roles while seeking to rebuild sworn positions after a significant headcount loss. Previously, he was a deputy chief at the BPD (2018 to 2020), chief of staff to Bill Bratton at Teneo Risk (2016 to 2018), and an assistant commissioner, sergeant, detective, and officer in the NYPD (2005 to 2016). He is a graduate ot Harvard College, holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School, and was a member of PERF SMIP #71. Jon lives with his wife, Vonnie, and children MacArthur and Cady Elizabeth in Burlington, VT.
