Kate McNamee is a Senior Policy Advisor within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). Kate has 21 years of experience managing national level criminal justice programs designed to assist state and local law enforcement adopt evidence based practices. At BJA, Kate oversees the Smart Policing Initiative (SPI), a program that has assisted more than 50 state and local law enforcement agencies to partner with researchers to test innovative approaches to pressing crime problems and organizational challenges and identify “what works” in policing. She also oversees BJA’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which provides funding, training and technical assistance to state, local and tribal law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and community leaders to help them identify their most pressing violent crime problems and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. In 2015 and 2022, she received the U.S. Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General’s Award for outstanding contributions to the mission and goals of the Office of Justice Programs.
