Brent joined the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) in early 1999. Brent worked in Patrol, surveillance, the Emergency Response Team (ERT a.k.a. SWAT), the Identity Theft Unit and the Integrated Riot Investigation Team.
Brent was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 while working as a Patrol Tactics instructor at the BC Police Academy. He returned to the VPD in 2016 as the ERT Training Sergeant. Brent served in the Court & Detention Services Section upon his promotion to Staff Sergeant in early 2019, then transitioned to the Professional Standards Section in May, 2020. Following promotion to Inspector in May, 2021, Brent has led projects focused on the VPD's operational response and currently oversees the Operations Support Section.
Brent was a Tactical Liaison Officer in the Critical Incident Command program and is currently a nationally certified Critical Incident Commander. He was part of the Critical Incident Stress Management team for over 15 years and has received 14 commendations throughout his career.
