Mark Maidens has served as a deputy sheriff with the Champaign County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) for sixteen years. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Mark retired from the U.S. Army with over twenty years of active-duty service, including numerous training assignments. Additionally, Mark has also served as an adjunct instructor at the Police Training Institute (PTI) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign for the past eight years.
Mark has over 30 years of combined experience as a trainer and instuctor. At CCSO he serves as a Field Training Instructor, a Crisis Negotiator on the area combined SWAT team, as well as numerous instructor roles within the department's training cadre. As a PTI Master Instructor, Mark trains and develops other instructors as well as course curriculum and research. In both positions, he instructs in multiple areas including various force tactics, de-escalation, and wellness. Mark is the chief instructor for REAL Training Systems and has been instrumental in developing PTI's Wellness Centered De-escalation Course.
