Lt. Craig Parker is a 13 year veteran of the Tuscaloosa Police Department, and has spent the majority of his career in Patrol Division while attending to numerous secondary duties. He began training his department in de-escalation techniques for behavioral health crisis in 2013, and that grew into developing the second CIT program in the State of Alabama. He created and commands the Behavioral Intervention Team, a specialized unit encompassing CIT officers, Mental Health Officers, School Resource Officers, and the first multiagency, multidisciplinary Threat Assessment and Management Team in the State of Alabama (Central Alabama Threat Team). CATT directly works potential threat cases local to Tuscaloosa, and acts in an advisory role for cases from across the state. Lt. Parker also fulfills duties as a Liaison to the Joint Terrorism Task Force (FBI), Threat Management Coordinator (FBI BTAC), and Crisis Negotiator (TPD). He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Auburn University, and numerous certifications in police response to behavioral health crises.
