Don Hedrick began his career at the RCPD in 2002 as a patrol officer. During his career, he has also held the positions of Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Support Services Captain, and Assistant Chief of Police before becoming Rapid City’s Chief of Police in 2020. A graduate of the FBI National Academy in 2014, Chief Hedrick earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Criminal Justice before completing his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Dakota. He is currently working on his Doctorate from Johns Hopkins University focused on Violence Reduction. He also serves on several boards which include the United States Department of Interior and U.S. Department of Justice Not Invisible Act Commission, the Rapid City Club for Boys, the South Dakota Police Chief’s Commission, and Leadership South Dakota.
