Sergeant
Seattle Police Department, Washington
Seattle, Washington, United States
My name is John O’Neil. I have worked with the Seattle Police Department for just under 20 years.
Out of high school, I started work in the technology industry installing home and business alarm systems. I quickly moved on to installing fiber optic backbone infrastructures in schools and businesses. I eventually was hired by the local phone company as a technician. Working as a phone technician was fulfilling but something seemed to be missing in my life.
I changed professions and got into Law Enforcement. I became a Correctional Officer at Monroe Prison. I worked at Monroe and Purdy Correctional Facilities for approximately 2 years. In 2004 I was hired by the Seattle Police Department.
During my time with SPD. I worked as a Patrol Officer, a Nightlife Liaison officer, and a Community Policing team Officer. In 2018 I was promoted to Sergeant. As a Sergeant, I worked in Patrol, the Community Policing team, K9 and I am currently working in Public Affairs. I recently promoted to Lieutenant and continue to enjoy working with the community, command staff, and the mayor’s office as a the Public Affairs commander.
