Chief James Olson was appointed to the DeForest Police Department in March
2019. Since he began in DeForest, he has re-organized the
department’s structure, added additional staff to provide enhanced public safety, and
added systems of accountability and transparency to demonstrate the Department’s
commitment to the highest standards of the professional policing. Chief Olson instituted
a Code of Conduct that holds members accountable for their behavior as it relates to
the Department’s values. Chief Olson has added additional community outreach
opportunities to help create a positive and inclusive brand for the Department.
Chief Olson began his career in the Milwaukee Police Department. He worked through the ranks in his 29 year career and retired in 2019.
Chief Olson works closely with the IACP as a
Master Leadership Instructor. He works with agencies around the world to
enhance their leadership abilities and to prepare them for the challenges they face in a
challenging environment.
Chief Olson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Northcentral University. and is a graduate of the
Northwestern University, School of Police Staff and Command.
