Deanna is a dedicated member of the San Diego Police Department’s Wellness Unit. With a passion for helping individuals, Deanna recognized the pressing need for specialized support for officers dealing with substance abuse, post-traumatic stress, and cumulative trauma. By collaborating with the City of San Diego's Risk Management Division to expedite treatment with culturally competent providers, SDPD has created another best practice in officer wellness.
Deanna is a subject-matter expert with CA Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) on dispatcher wellness. Deanna is currently working on a statewide project promoting officer wellness with the POWR grant program offered through POST. Deanna is a published author with PORAC and has presented on various panels including the 2022 Public Safety Peer Support Conference, the 2023 California Police Chief's Association Conference, the Bay Area Public Agency Risk Management Association, and the 2023 WLLE Conference.
Deanna's empathy and expertise have contributed to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health to create a positive change within law enforcement agencies.
