Michael A. David is a Social Science Analyst with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) with expertise in use of force, de-escalation, police legitimacy, and community policing. He previously worked for DOJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS) responding to community level tension and helping to resolve identity-based conflicts. Prior to coming to DOJ, Michael spent twenty years with the East Providence Police Department in Rhode Island, retiring at the rank of Captain. He also has many years of experience training law enforcement officers and supervisors on a variety of topics, and teaching criminology and criminal justice at the collegiate level. Michael’s true passion is in helping police agencies engage problem-solving strategies and manage organizational change to improve public safety services.
