Vonda Matthews has worked for the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) for more than 26 years. She has worked in Training, in External Affairs for 10 years doing congressional relations, and is now in the Technical Assistance and Partnership Engagement Divisions. She has led teams including the Community Policing Development solicitation working group and the Awards Management team, developing, and delivering solicitations and identifying gaps and improving processes spanning the entire grant-making lifecycle. She was awarded the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award.
Ms. Matthews currently is responsible for the CIT solicitation and manages the de-escalation cohort as well as other awards addressing the de-escalation of veterans in crisis, decriminalizing being unsheltered, diversion, elder justice, and partnering with police foundations and mental health services providers.
Ms. Matthews holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Redlands. She has been certified as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Dialectical Behavior Counselor.
