Chief Michael Pooley joined the Apache Junction Police Department in January of 2022 when he was selected to be Chief of Police.
Chief Pooley is a proven law enforcement leader and executive with over 22 years of experience that has served in a variety of leadership capacities.
Prior to joining the Apache Junction Police Department he worked for the Tempe Police Department (AZ) for almost 21 years, where he served at all ranks from patrol officer to Assistant Chief of Police. During his time at Tempe Police, he gained valuable experience from working in several operational and administrative assignments from patrol officer, S.W.A.T. operator, narcotics detective, patrol sergeant, negotiator supervisor, and media relations sergeant, Lieutenant, Commander, and Assistant Chief.
Chief Pooley earned a Bachelors in Justice Studies from Arizona State University and a Master of Education from Northern Arizona University. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Command and Senior Management Institute of Policing (SMIP).
