Joe is a criminalist at the NYPD Police Laboratory and works in the Firearms Analysis Section (FAS) in a case management/forensic intelligence role. He oversees the collection of gun offense data via FAS operations and is part of a team responsible for several forensic intelligence projects via crime gun offense data.
Joe has a BS in Forensic Chemistry from Sam Houston State University, an MS in Forensic Science from Pace University, and is a doctoral student (Doctor of Forensic Sciences) at Oklahoma State University. He was previously assigned to the NYPD Crime Scene Unit and was a Forensic Investigator (CSI + latent print examiner) at the Garland Police Department in Garland, TX prior to working at NYPD. Joe is currently an adjunct assistant professor in the Forensic Science Program at Pace University.
Joes research interests include: developing a scalable crime gun intelligence framework for law enforcement agencies, developing fit-for-purpose NIBIN intelligence policies in law enforcement agencies, developing scalable quality assurance guidelines in the crime scene discipline, and the enhancement of post-secondary forensic science education standards.
