Ashley received her LL.B. in 2007 and articled at the Court of Queen’s Bench. The following year Ashley clerked at the Federal Court of Canada while completing her LL.M. and Diploma in Justice System Administration. After completing her clerkships, Ashley practiced civil litigation until she became the Director of Legal Services for the Saskatoon Police Service in late 2015. Ashley served as counsel for the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (“CACP”) at the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and has been published in numerous journals and authored one book. Ashley currently serves as Chair of multiple committees and is a sessional lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan ("U of S") College of Law, where she teaches Criminal Trial Advocacy.
Ashley has been awarded a YWCA Women of Distinction Award, a U of S Alumni Achievement Award, the STLA’s 2017 Justice W. Frank Gerein Memorial Award, a 2018 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 Award, a 2018 Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership Award, a 2019 CACP Recognition Award, a 2020 IACP 40 Under 40 Award and a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
