Dr. Mai Phan is a data expert / pracademic with over 20 years of experience teaching, researching, developing and leading policy and data innovation to address systemic barriers and promote inclusive practices and policies in public sector organizations.
Mai is currently Manager of Research at the Anti-Racism Unit where she is helping the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to develop and implement a race-based data collection initiative across Canada. Previous to this, she led Toronto Police Service's ground-breaking Race and Identity-Based Data Collection Strategy. She works collaboratively with colleagues, partners, stakeholders and communities to support an evidence-based systems approach to racial equity, human rights, and inclusion.
At the Anti-Racism Directorate at the Province of Ontario, Dr. Phan led the development and establishment of the Ontario Anti-Racism Data Standards for public sector organizations. She has also led initiatives to identify and address systemic discrimination and remove barriers in employment and service delivery in the Ontario Public Service and provincial correctional services.
