Chief Bryan Waughs has nearly 30 combined years of law enforcement experience, serving 21 years with the La Vista Nebraska Police Department reaching the rank of Captain. He was appointed Chief of Police for the Kearney Police Department, Nebraska in January 2019. The Kearney Police Department is a mid-size agency, with 61 sworn police officers, 15 civilian staff, and an annual budget of nearly 12.5 million dollars. KPD embraces a strong community policing philosophy and established partnerships with all members of the community.
Chief Waugh holds a Master’s Degree in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma, a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Bellevue University and an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Chief Waugh is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 263, FBI LEEDS Session 81, Northwestern University School of Police Supervision, and the Rural Executive Management Institute.
Chief Waugh is the current President of the FBI National Academy Associates of Nebraska, President of the Police Chiefs Association of Nebraska, a member of the American Legion Post 52, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759 in Kearney.
