Contemporary and Emerging Science and Practice in High-Stakes Employment Screening and Selection: Special Topics (e.g., Assessing Bias, Extremism, Social Media)
Psychologist Corey + Stewart Lake Oswego, Oregon, United States
Assessing certain kinds of risk (e.g., bias, extremism) in the screening and hiring of prospective employees for high stakes/risk occupations like policing is critical for maintaining/protecting life and liberty in a democratic society and required in most states in the U.S. In this presentation, a forensically trained board-certified police psychologist with expertise in research and practice in preemployment screening profiles some of the common errors in employment screening and how hiring can go horribly wrong. Examples of major fail cases will be discussed and the most important aspects of screening will be detailed. The established science and practice, as well as emerging technologies in screening will be reviewed. Protocols will be modeled. Material will be available.
