Capt. Jonas Baughman is a 20-year veteran of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD). He has held assignments in patrol, investigations, administration, and crime analysis. Crime analysis became his professional passion, with more than half of his career having been in positions related to crime/intelligence analysis. He created the KCPD's first Real-time Crime Center team, directed a squad of gang intelligence detectives, and has worked in the Chief’s Office providing strategic analysis and other performance metrics for executive staff. He currently oversees the KCPD’s crime/intelligence analysis teams within the Special Investigations Division.
Capt. Baughman’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and professional publications. He co-authored Modern Policing Using ArcGIS Pro with Dr. Eric Piza and is writing a second book about crime analysis for law enforcement command staff. His efforts have also earned accolades such as the IACP’s Leadership in Law Enforcement Research Award and a Finalist Award for the Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing through the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing.
