Detective Director Karsten Bettels joined the Lower Saxony Police in 1979. After four years, he switched to the investigative field, where he performed various tasks, including criminal investigation service with initial measures in homicides and missing persons cases.
In 2004, he became head of Investigation of Cuxhaven Police and headed two investigation commissions to solve missing and murdered children (SoKo Levke). From 2010, he has been conducting the training in homicide units and teaches in the bachelor's and master's degree programme.
Since 2014, he has been working with students in cold case analyses in a national format and in 2020 he co-founded and headed ICCAP, an international association of police colleges and universities to establish a close link between theory and practice in cold cases.
