Deborah Meader serves as a Senior Policy Advisor with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice, leading BJA’s robust Officer Safety and Wellness portfolio (the VALOR Initiative). Her work enables BJA to bring no-cost officer safety and wellness training, technical assistance, and resources to U.S. law enforcement. Ms. Meader has 20+ years building a foundation of knowledge and relationships in the law enforcement, officer safety, and officer wellness fields. She brings a diverse background and unique perspective to BJA. Her experience allows her to guide, design, and implement innovative, research based, and field-enhancing law enforcement programs. Prior to joining BJA, Ms. Meader worked at Lockheed Martin supporting the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) Office of Science and Technology with management of numerous projects focused on research, development, and dissemination of state-of-the-art technology for state and local law enforcement. Ms. Meader began her professional career as a police officer with the Montgomery County (MD) Police Department after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
