Chief Jared Hernandez is a Milpitas native who began his career with the Milpitas Police Department in 1991 as a police explorer and was later hired as a public safety dispatcher in 1996. In 1999, Chief Hernandez was hired as a police officer and promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief of Police. In 2021, he was appointed as the City of Milpitas' eighth Police Chief. During his career, Chief Hernandez served in a variety of assignments including Crisis Negotiator, Field Training Officer, Special Investigations Unit Detective, Special Investigations Unit Supervisor, Santa Clara County AB109 Task Force Supervisor, Crime Reduction Team Supervisor, Personnel and Training Sergeant, and SWAT Team Commander. Chief Hernandez places tremendous value on the health and welless of his employees and is continuously seeking ways to enhance the department’s Employee Wellness program. Chief Hernandez holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
