Detective Sergeant Daniel Caropreso has over 26 years of supervisory, patrol, and investigative experience to include crimes of violence, property crimes, narcotics, street gangs, and illegal firearms manufacturing. He has worked reactive, proactive, and undercover investigative assignments. He has developed and handled numerous confidential informants and is a recognized court expert in narcotics and Asian criminal street gangs. He has conducted hundreds of hours of investigative surveillances, interviews, and interrogations of suspects. He has acted as case agent and supervised complex series related investigations. He has assisted specialized units as well as State and Federal agencies with Gang ‘Wire Tap’ investigations.
In July of 2021 Detective Sergeant Caropreso was tasked with creating a first in the nation, San Diego Police Department Ghost Gun Apprehension Team (GAT). Team members investigate all ‘ghost gun’ recoveries with the mission of identifying the firearms origin. He has also assisted several California agencies on how to implement and create a ghost gun unit within their departments.
