Tony was born in Portugal and immigrated to the United States when he was 6 years old. He joined the Marine Corps after high school then joined the San Diego Police Department in 1993. He worked in patrol for the first eleven years of his career. He was a SWAT officer, sniper, and FTO before being selected as a detective on the Executive Protection Detail. Tony promoted to sergeant in March of 2009 and went back to a Patrol Command. After a few years in patrol, Tony was assigned to the Internal Affairs/EEO Unit. He was then assigned to the Professional Standards Unit when it was recreated in August of 2014. Tony was promoted to lieutenant in March 2016. As a lieutenant, he has worked as the Investigations Lieutenant at a Patrol Command, Juvenile Administration/STAR PAL, K-9 Unit, Gang Unit and currently oversees the Professional Standards Unit.
