Fairley is a Professor from Practice at University of Chicago Law School where she teaches criminal procedure, the law of policing, and federal criminal law.
Fairley served eight years as a federal prosecutor partnering with federal, state, and local law enforcement on criminal investigations involving violent crimes, narcotics trafficking, and national security. As Chicago's First Deputy Inspector General, she she oversaw city-wide misconduct and corruption investigations. Fairley spearheaded the creation of Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
Having served as a subject matter expert on civilian oversight of law enforcement, police accountability, and use of force, Fairley has also conducted law enforcement training on various topics.
Fairley has authored several legal articles. Most recently, Fairley authored a chapter in a book published by the American Bar Association titled, "Constitutional Policing: Striving for a More Perfect Union."
Fairley holds a BS degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Eng'g from Princeton University, a Wharton MBA, and a JD from the Univ of Chicago Law School.
